Overview

Summary:

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented apprentice to join our busy and growing accountancy practice. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is starting their career in accounting and finance and is looking to gain hands-on experience in a professional and supportive environment.

Wage
: £13,741 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age. National Minimum Wage rate for apprentices. Salary dependent on experience. Training course:

:
Monday - Friday 8am - 5pm. 35 hours a week

What you’ll do at work

You will work closely with senior members of the team to support the preparation of accounts, bookkeeping, and other essential financial tasks for a variety of clients across different sectors.

  • Assist in the preparation of year-end accounts for sole traders, partnerships, and limited companies
  • Perform regular bookkeeping using accounting software (e.g., Xero, Quick Books, Sage)
  • Prepare VAT returns and ensure compliance with HMRC regulations
  • Reconcile bank statements and assist with accounts reconciliations
  • Support in the processing of purchase and sales invoices
  • Help with payroll processing, where required
  • Maintain accurate and organised client records
  • Respond to basic client queries via phone and email
  • Assist with general administrative tasks as required

What you’ll learn

Course contents

  • Assist with the investigation and response to financial information queries.
  • Record and analyse financial data using the organisation’s standard tools and processes.
  • Apply double entry bookkeeping and accounting standards to process financial documents, generate financial statements and report financial information to users of accounts.
  • Assist with production of accurate financial information for the preparation of accounts.
  • Reconcile financial data, such as, preparation of reconciliations or review of reconciliations.
  • Investigate, resolve or escalate transactional queries and errors within their remit as appropriate.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders.
  • Communicate financial information in a way that non-finance stakeholders can interpret and understand.
  • Utilise digital skills to present key financial information using finance and accounting software and applications.
  • Use software packages to assist with basic accounting tasks in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.
  • Communicate using varying approaches and different media methods with an appreciation of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.

Training schedule
:
The apprentice will attend Oldham College one day a week for off-the-job training.

Essential qualifications

GCSE in English and Maths (grade 4-9, A*-C).
