Role Overview
We are currently working with a welcoming and forward‑thinking secondary school in Oldham that is looking to appoint a committed Behaviour/Pastoral Support professional on a full‑time or part‑time basis. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is passionate about making a genuine difference to the lives of young people, particularly those who may need additional emotional, behavioural or social support to thrive in a school setting.
The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting students across Key Stages 3 and 4, working closely with teaching staff, senior leaders and external agencies to promote positive behaviour and encourage engagement with learning. You will be working with pupils on a one‑to‑one basis and in small groups, helping to de‑escalate challenging situations, build resilience and confidence, and support students in developing strategies to manage their behaviour effectively.
Responsibilities• Provide individual and group pastoral support to students who require additional emotional, behavioural or social support.
• Collaborate with teachers, senior leaders and external agencies to develop and implement behaviour improvement plans.
• De‑escalate challenging situations and practice crisis management techniques.
• Build positive relationships with students and support them in developing self‑regulation and resilience skills.
• Maintain accurate and confidential records of student progress and incidents.
• Previous experience working with children or young people in any capacity, ideally in youth work, support work, mentoring or similar environments.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, patience and the ability to build positive relationships with students who may present challenging behaviour.
• A calm, resilient, adaptable approach with a genuine passion for helping young people achieve their full potential.
• Good understanding of safeguarding practices and ability to undertake or have already completed a valid enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
• Commitment to ongoing professional development and training, including child protection and prevent duty training.
• Temporary position with the possibility of becoming permanent in the future.
• Pay rates inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay.
• Full assistance with DBS checks and other safeguarding training provided.
