Role Overview

We are currently working with a welcoming and forward‑thinking secondary school in Oldham that is looking to appoint a committed Behaviour/Pastoral Support professional on a full‑time or part‑time basis. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is passionate about making a genuine difference to the lives of young people, particularly those who may need additional emotional, behavioural or social support to thrive in a school setting.

The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting students across Key Stages 3 and 4, working closely with teaching staff, senior leaders and external agencies to promote positive behaviour and encourage engagement with learning. You will be working with pupils on a one‑to‑one basis and in small groups, helping to de‑escalate challenging situations, build resilience and confidence, and support students in developing strategies to manage their behaviour effectively.

Responsibilities

• Provide individual and group pastoral support to students who require additional emotional, behavioural or social support.

• Collaborate with teachers, senior leaders and external agencies to develop and implement behaviour improvement plans.

• De‑escalate challenging situations and practice crisis management techniques.

• Build positive relationships with students and support them in developing self‑regulation and resilience skills.

• Maintain accurate and confidential records of student progress and incidents.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Previous experience working with children or young people in any capacity, ideally in youth work, support work, mentoring or similar environments.

• Excellent interpersonal skills, patience and the ability to build positive relationships with students who may present challenging behaviour.

• A calm, resilient, adaptable approach with a genuine passion for helping young people achieve their full potential.

• Good understanding of safeguarding practices and ability to undertake or have already completed a valid enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

• Commitment to ongoing professional development and training, including child protection and prevent duty training.

Remuneration & Working Conditions

• Temporary position with the possibility of becoming permanent in the future.

• Pay rates inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay.

• Full assistance with DBS checks and other safeguarding training provided.
