Teaching Personnel are currently recruiting for a resilient and compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a friendly, small primary school in North Manchester. This rewarding role involves supporting pupils with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs, including those who may display challenging behaviour.

This position is ideal for someone who thrives in a supportive role, can remain calm under pressure, and is confident in setting clear boundaries while offering consistent emotional support.

About the Role

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in helping pupils overcome barriers to learning. You will support children throughout the school day to regulate emotions, engage in lessons, and build positive relationships.

You will also be a trusted adult during moments of dysregulation, providing reassurance and using appropriate strategies to help pupils feel safe, settled, and ready to learn.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide targeted support for pupils with SEMH needs
  • Manage and respond to challenging behaviour using de-escalation techniques
  • Support pupils in developing emotional regulation and social skills
  • Build strong, consistent and trusting relationships with pupilsi>
  • Work closely with teachers and support staff to ensure a cohesive approach
  • Maintain a structured, safe and nurturing learning environment
  • Deliver 1:1 support where needed
Essential Criteria
  • Experience supporting, or a strong understanding of, SEMH and behavioural needs
  • Calm, patient and resilient approach
  • Proactive thinking
  • Confidence in managing dysregulated behaviour
  • Ability to provide consistent 1:1 support and guidance
  • Strong team-working and communication skills
  • Full-time availability and commitment to a long‑term role
Desirable Experience
  • Previous experience in an SEMH, SEN or specialist education setting
  • Team Teach training (or willingness to complete training)
