Are you an experienced, compassionate SEND Teaching Assistant dedicated to supporting children with complex social, emotional, and mental health needs?
Engage Education is recruiting a skilled SEND Teaching Assistant to join a fantastic, two-form entry primary school in Oldham starting this September. This is a full-time, long-term opportunity based within‘The Hive’, the school’s dedicated Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) unit.
About the Role‘The Hive’ is a specialist, nurturing provision designed to support pupils with SEMH needs, emotional regulation challenges, and associated conditions such as Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and communication needs.
Working alongside an experienced and supportive specialist team, you will help children access learning through tailored activities, positive behaviour strategies, and therapeutic, sensory-based approaches.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Delivering 1-to-1 and small group intervention support to children within ‘The Hive’
- Supporting pupils with emotional regulation, sensory needs, and developing coping mechanisms in a calm, safe setting
- Assisting the lead teacher with adaptive lesson delivery and tailored activities
- Implementing positive behaviour support strategies to build resilience, self-esteem, and independence
- Helping pupils develop communication and social interaction skills
- Working closely with school staff and SEN pastoral teams to monitor and celebrate pupil progress
We are looking for a patient, resilient practitioner who brings genuine empathy and a calm, structured approach to supporting vulnerable learners.
Qualifications and experience:
- Experience:
Previous experience supporting children with SEND/SEMH within a UK school or specialist setting - Skills:
Strong understanding of emotional regulation strategies, ASC, and positive behaviour management - Attributes:
Calm, adaptable, resilient, and proactive under pressure - Communication:
Excellent teamwork and communication skills to collaborate effectively with teachers, parents, and external specialists - Desirable:
Experience or training in Team Teach, Makaton, PECS, Attention Autism, or trauma-informed practice is advantageous (though not essential)
