Are you a resilient, patient and proactive Behaviour Mentor who is passionate about supporting young people with additional needs and challenging behaviour?
A welcoming specialist secondary school in Rochdale is seeking a dedicated Behaviour Mentor / Behaviour Support Assistant to join its experienced team from September 2026
. This is an excellent opportunity to start the new academic year in a rewarding role, supporting pupils with ASC, ADHD and SEMH needs to regulate their emotions, manage behaviour and access learning.
You will provide 1:1, small-group and classroom support
, helping pupils overcome barriers to learning and develop positive behaviours and routines.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting pupils with ASC, ADHD, SEMH and challenging behaviour
. - Building positive, trusting relationships with pupils.
- Using effective behaviour management and de-escalation strategies
. - Supporting emotional regulation and positive behaviour.
- Remaining calm, patient and resilient when faced with challenging situations.
- Working closely with teachers, pastoral teams and SEN professionals.
- Encouraging pupils to engage with learning and develop confidence and independence.
- Helping to maintain a safe, structured and inclusive environment.
We are looking for someone who is:
- Patient, resilient and consistent in their approach.
- Confident managing challenging behaviour and remaining calm under pressure.
- Engaging, proactive and passionate about supporting young people.
- Experienced in behaviour support, SEN, SEMH, youth work or education
. - Ideally experienced working within a residential, care or specialist behaviour setting
. - A strong communicator who works well as part of a team.
- Team Teach trained or willing to undertake training.
