Salary: £37,908-£46,332 per annum basic (£18-22 per hour) DOE + Van + Excellent increased earning potential with overtime @ 1X rate during the week and 2X for any weekend work.

Hours:

40.5 hours per week (Monday–Thursday 8am‑5pm, Friday 8am‑3pm).

The Role

We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer / Fitter to work on mobile shredders, hydraulic systems, and mechanical components.

You will split your time between the workshop, carrying out repairs, overhauls, and reconditioning of shredding equipment; and customer sites nationwide, performing planned maintenance, diagnostics, and reactive breakdown support.

Example of Responsibilities
  • Mechanical repair, servicing, and reconditioning of mobile shredders
  • Diagnosing faults across hydraulic, mechanical, and power transmission systems
  • Attending breakdowns and carrying out on‑site repairs
  • Conducting site inspections and planned maintenance
  • Identifying faults and implementing effective, safe repair solutions
  • Maintaining high standards of workmanship and customer service
Experience / Skills Required
  • Full UK Driving Licence
  • Proven experience in a mechanical engineering or fitter role, ideally within recycling, waste, quarrying, or heavy plant
  • Experience with hydraulics; ability to weld; cut metal with oxy‑acetylene; arc air gouger would be advantageous but not essential
  • Flexibility to travel with some overnight stays when required
