Deputy Practice Manager GP Surgery

Hours:

30 hours per week (0.8 FTE)

Reports to:

Practice Manager / GP Partners

About the Practice We are a friendly, well-established GP surgery caring for approximately 9,500 patients. Our team includes four GP Partners, Practice Manager, Office Manager, Administration Manager, four Practice Nurses, HCA, Phlebotomist, ANP and Matron. We pride ourselves on being a supportive, positive and collaborative practice where colleagues work together to provide high-quality, patient-centred care.

Job Purpose

To support the Practice Manager and GP Partners with the effective day-to-day management of the practice, ensuring efficient operations, excellent patient experience, good governance and a positive working environment. The postholder will deputise for the Practice Manager when required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the day-to-day operational management of the practice and non-clinical services.
  • Provide leadership and support to reception and administrative teams.
  • Assist with recruitment, induction, rotas, appraisals, performance management and staff development.
  • Support CQC compliance, governance, risk management, policies and procedures.
  • Assist with complaints, significant events, incidents, audits and quality improvement.
  • Support GDPR, information governance, health and safety and mandatory training requirements.
  • Assist with QOF, Enhanced Services, vaccination programmes and other practice targets.
  • Monitor workloads, staffing and service capacity, identifying areas for improvement.
  • Promote excellent patient service and support the management of patient feedback and concerns.
  • Work closely with the PCN and external healthcare organisations.
  • Assist with premises, facilities, suppliers and contractors.
  • Contribute to practice meetings, business planning and implementation of agreed actions.
  • Promote a positive, respectful and supportive team culture.
Person Specification

Essential:
Experience in a management or supervisory role; excellent organisational, communication and IT skills; ability to lead and support staff; ability to prioritise and work under pressure; commitment to confidentiality, patient care and continuous improvement.

Desirable: GP practice/NHS experience; knowledge of CQC, QOF, Enhanced Services, PCNs and primary care governance; HR and quality improvement experience.

The successful candidate will be proactive, approachable, organised and committed to working collaboratively as part of our friendly practice team.
