Oldham Council is seeking a committed and compassionate Family Support Worker (Profile
B) to support children, young people and families where there are identified safeguarding concerns.
This is a frontline role working directly with families where children are subject to Child Protection Plans, Child in Need Plans and/or are Looked After by the Local Authority. You will work closely with Social Workers and partner agencies to help improve outcomes for children and promote their safety, wellbeing and development.
The Role As a Family Support Worker, you will:
Work directly with children, young people and families, delivering practical support, advice and guidance in family homes and community settings
Contribute to and implement individual care and support plans alongside parents, carers, social workers and partner agencies
Carry out welfare visits, observations and assessments, recording progress accurately and professionally
Support and supervise family time/contact sessions, ensuring children are safely conveyed to and from venues
Maintain accurate case records and provide written and verbal contributions to multi-agency meetings, Child in Need reviews, Child Protection conferences and LAC reviews
Assist with assessments by providing written observations that may be used in court proceedings, attending court where required
Support group work for parents and young people in partnership with other services
Promote equality, diversity and anti-discriminatory practice in all aspects of your work
About You To be considered, you must have:
NVQ Level 3 in Child Care, Health & Social Care or a related subject (or equivalent)
Recent experience working with children in need, young people and families
Experience of maintaining accurate records and writing reports
Experience of working as part of a team and in partnership with other professionals and agencies
Strong communication, organisational and interpersonal skills
Knowledge of child development, safeguarding and child protection legislation
An understanding of equality, diversity, data protection and information security
Basic IT skills to support case recording and communication
You must also be able to travel across the borough and work flexibly, including occasional evenings and weekends to meet service needs.
