Olney Theatre Center Discovery Stage is a brand new program for rising grades 1-3 that will introduce participants to theatre in multiple fun, engaging ways. Each day, students will explore a topic or story inspired by the theme of the week through imaginative games, music, and crafts. It is possible for participants to register for both sessions.

In Session 1 (July 6-July 10), we’ll discover everything we can learn about superheroes from the legendary heroes of comic books and movies to the heroes of our everyday lives.

In Session 2 (July 20-July 24), we’ll explore some of the most wild areas on Earth, and maybe even discover a new animal or plant or two.

At the end of the one-week session, students will demonstrate what they’ve discovered from the week in an art exhibit and brief performance for friends and family on the last Friday of camp at 1:00pm.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead one-week long summer camps focused on introducing theatre and theatrical concepts to students rising in grades 1-3.
  • Create and implement curriculum that focuses on introductory theatre for early elementary school students inspired by the theme of each session which will include a song, dance, and craft for each day.
  • Work collaboratively with co-lead teacher in curriculum development and curating a final sharing for friends and family that will include an art exhibit and brief performance.

Requirements

  • A can-do attitude and a willingness and enthusiasm to work with younger children.
  • Experience teaching early elementary aged children theatre concepts.
  • Flexibility and organizational skills
  • Excellent listening, problem-solving, and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to multitask and work well under pressure
  • Availability in person on site for Session 1:
    July 6-July 10, 2026 and/or Session 2:
    July 20-July 24, 2026 between 8:30 am-2:30 pm.
  • Provide own transportation
  • Reliability and punctuality

Compensation: $550 per session
