Position SummaryUnder the general supervision of a physician, the Physician Assistant is responsible for varied medical services that may include obtaining a complete medical history, performing a physical examination, ordering and interpreting laboratory tests and imaging studies, formulating a diagnosis and treatment plan, prescribing or dispensing medication, rounding on admitted patients, counseling patients and families, and other patient care duties. The PA may be involved in any role that the attending physician deems proper and consistent with applicable law, hospital regulations, delineation of privileges, and the PA’s training, knowledge, skill, and experience.
EssentialResponsibilities / Duties
- Collaborate with attending physicians to admit, evaluate, treat, and discharge patients admitted to the Department of Surgery inpatient hospitalist service.
- Perform and/or interpret routine diagnostic studies, including laboratory procedures, common radiological studies, and electrocardiograph tracings.
- Round to evaluate patients and write progress reports.
- Perform therapeutic procedures such as immunizations, wound care, suturing, incision and drainage of superficial infections, and wound debridement under attending supervision.
- Act as liaison with patient’s primary care or referring physician for continuing care.
- Facilitate communication with other departments to provide effective patient care.
- Record and maintain patient medical records, including initial evaluation, follow‑up, incidents, and progress.
- Maintain patient confidentiality.
- Conform to hospital standards of performance and conduct, including patient rights and infection control and safety procedures.
- Use the hospital’s cultural beliefs to support the mission and goals.
- Hold at least a bachelor’s degree and graduate from an accredited PA program.
- Be National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistant (NCCPA) PANCE eligible and eligible for PA licensure in Maryland; documentation of Maryland PA license and initial NCCPA certification required upon hire.
- If prescribing medications, hold DEA Controlled Substance Registration.
At least a bachelor’s degree and graduate of an ACLP‑certified PA program.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Required- NCCPA PANCE eligibility and Maryland PA license.
- DEA Controlled Substance Registration if prescribing is included.
Prior experience in a similar clinical setting or specialty is preferred.
Knowledge and Skills- Self‑directed with initiative, professionalism, and expert clinical judgment to function independently.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to convey complex medical information.
- Strong problem‑solving and conflict resolution skills.
- Interest or expertise in caring for diverse populations with varying health literacy.
$50.59–$64.30 per hour.
