Clinical Pharmacy Specialist I - Oncology
Join our team at Med Star Montgomery Medical Center in Olney, Maryland as a full‑time Clinical Pharmacy Specialist I. Schedule is Monday‑Friday 8:30 a.m.‑5 p.m. with rotating weekends (day or evening shift).
Primary Duties and Responsibilities- Evaluate therapeutic options and provide clinical guidance to pharmacists, residents, and staff; monitor drug therapy and develop patient care plans.
- Evaluate medication orders for accuracy; resolve discrepancies through communication with physicians, pharmacists, or nursing staff; dispense medication as necessary.
- Provide functional supervision of support personnel; monitor attendance, workload, and productivity; direct workflow to meet departmental standards.
- Participate autonomously in inpatient care rounds; review patient data, develop therapeutic plans, and counsel patients on medication use.
- Respond to drug information requests and ensure prescribers comply with clinical practice guidelines and drug policies.
- Lead continuous quality improvement efforts and represent the department in interdisciplinary interfaces.
- Participate in development of clinical practice guidelines, evaluate biomedical literature, and prepare evidence‑based documents.
- Serve as preceptor for pharmacy students and residents; provide educational services to pharmacists, technicians, and other healthcare professionals.
- Participate in research protocol review, development, and publication of academic work.
- Doctoral degree Pharm D or equivalent pharmacy degree from an accredited college of pharmacy.
- PGY‑1 and PGY‑2 required, OR PGY‑1 plus 2 years of direct patient‑care experience in a specialized area, OR 5‑7 years of hospital experience (≥ 4 years in a specialized area).
- Registered pharmacist license in the state of Maryland.
- Board certification in oncology (or related specialty) within 1 year of employment.
- Strong problem‑solving and independent judgment.
- Effective communication with patients, families, medical and nursing staff.
- Leadership and mentorship of clinical pharmacists and trainees.
- Proficiency in pharmacy software and basic computer skills.
