Environmental and Geospatial Science, Tenure Track Faculty Member
This is a full‑time, regular (tenure‑track) faculty position in the School of Professional and Continuing Education at The Evergreen State College, starting in the 2026‑27 academic year. The college seeks a candidate with advanced training and experience in environmental science and applied geospatial science. The successful applicant will act as lead faculty for an introductory‑level GIS Certificate program and, depending on their expertise, will also teach foundational and intermediate‑level environmental studies courses.
Faculty are expected to develop curriculum independently and in collaboration with colleagues across the social, physical, arts, and humanities disciplines, teach career‑connected courses, and team‑teach exploratory interdisciplinary classes.
The school offers transformative education for working adults and lifelong learners through a bachelor's degree program and multiple certificate credentials. The curriculum combines theory with practice and is delivered during evenings and weekends in in‑person, online, and hybrid formats. Candidates should be committed to career‑connected learning and creative online instruction for diverse learners. Faculty should also be willing to address broad social themes and pursue innovative pedagogical approaches to learning and teaching.
JobExpectations
Faculty will teach 16 credits per 11‑week quarter (four‑ or eight‑credit offerings), maintaining a 25:1 student‑to‑faculty ratio and supporting capstone work, undergraduate research, internships, and faculty‑supported research as appropriate. Instruction may be fully online, in‑person, or low‑residency/hybrid, with synchronous evening or weekend sessions. In the first year, faculty receive partial release to develop new certificates and curriculum. Faculty will also write narrative evaluations, conduct individual meetings, advise students for post‑graduation goals, and may serve on governing bodies.
Minimum Qualifications- Ph.D. in Environmental Science or a closely related field, with a GIS or remote sensing concentration.
- Ability to teach upper‑division students and guide research projects.
- Ability to teach lower‑division (general education) Environmental Science and GIS.
- Demonstrated experience and enthusiasm for designing courses that integrate environmental science and GIS for interdisciplinary analysis and problem solving.
- Demonstrated skills in remote sensing and cross‑platform analyses.
- Experience supporting student research using emerging technologies and platforms (e.g., Google Earth Engine, R).
- Experience teaching online.
- Experience supporting students toward career goals and opportunities.
- Experience communicating and working with a diverse student population, including returning adult students.

Salary Information$53,966 – $111,485. Faculty membership is unranked; salary is determined on a non‑competitive, open scale based on earned degrees and years of relevant experience.
