Summary: Creates moderate to highly complex designs of electric master system plans, power system, protection and generation models, facility power systems, sustainability/renewable energy systems, and other similar electrical systems. Executes electrical design assignments using prescribed methods and standard techniques, and contributes to studies, reviews, and proposals.

Responsibilities
  • Design electrical systems including master plans, power systems, protection and generation models, facility power systems, and sustainability/renewable energy systems.
  • Execute electrical design assignments using prescribed methods and standard techniques, including drawing sequence and presentation, sizing components, and refining rough sketches.
  • Incorporate design changes, redlines, or mark-ups on ongoing projects and update design requirements as necessary.
  • Contribute to studies of power systems and electrical calculations, lighting simulations and layouts, communications, fire alarm, security and other related calculations.
  • Perform site reviews and studies to ensure designs align with location specifications.
  • Develop white papers and technical design documentation for new or special case designs and studies to support the firm’s TKM.
  • Collaborate with sales staff to create proposals in response to requests for proposals (RFPs) and review drafts for adherence to regulations and best practices.
  • Engage with current and potential clients to review design needs and attend conferences or symposia to improve visibility of the firm’s products and services.
  • Provide technical guidance and training to junior staff and mentor for future growth within the discipline and firm.
  • Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • 7 years of related experience.
  • Equivalent additional directly related experience may be considered in lieu of a college degree.
  • Domestic and/or international travel may be required. Travel frequency depends on duties and project demands.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience leading substation engineering projects through 345kV.
  • Proficiency in protective relay schemes and relay schematics/wiring diagrams.
  • Expertise in specifying and selecting electrical equipment, including SCADA/RTU hardware.
  • Familiarity with NESC and NEC standards.
  • Knowledge of substation grounding grid design and lightning protection systems.
Skills and Abilities
  • Expert knowledge of CAD/CADD 3D and 4D software and practices.
  • Advanced knowledge in design, calculations and design systems. Strong Microsoft Office skills.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and presentation skills with the ability to engage clients and convey complex concepts clearly.
  • Ability to work effectively across levels in a dynamic environment. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Knowledge of federal, state and local regulations.

Pay and Travel
  • Pay Range Minimum: $81,765
  • Pay Range Maximum: $134,909
  • Additional Compensation: All bonuses at CDM Smith are discretionary and may or may not apply to this position.

    5%
