Primary PurposeTo be responsible for the profitable, ethical, and scientific investigation of events, systems, devices, and/or failures; to provide expert opinions, and to decide the proper course of action on investigations and report reviews for assigned cases.

Do you thrive at the intersection of technical excellence, team leadership, and strategic impact? We're seeking a Principal Forensic Structural Engineer to join our large complex loss practice.
In this high‑impact role, you'll guide complex investigations, mentor talented engineers, and shape outcomes that matter to clients in legal, insurance, and construction sectors.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities- Assign engineers to client losses and manage quality control.
- Survey losses and loss scenes at residential and commercial buildings.
- Conduct investigations to determine and document scope of damage.
- Provide guidance and leadership on complex losses.
- Implement engineering strategies within the assigned engineering team.
- Collaborate with investigators to produce detailed reports illustrating cause and origin of losses and damages.
- Serve as an expert witness in court and/or depositions.
- Document and maintain billable hours on a time and expense basis.
- Collaborate with EFI's national team of forensic experts to leverage experience and assist on projects.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Support the organization's quality program(s).
- Travel as required.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university required.
- Professional Engineering (PE) license required in the resident state.
Eight (8) years of experience or equivalent combination of experience and education required.
Skills & Knowledge- Strong oral and written communication skills, including presentation skills.
- PC literate, including Microsoft Office products.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently or in a team environment.
- Ability to meet or exceed performance competencies.

Clear and conceptual thinking ability; excellent judgment and discretion; ability to handle work‑related stress; handle multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
Physical:
Must be able to stand, walk for long periods; kneel, squat or bend; work outdoors in hot/cold; climb, crawl, stoop, reach overhead; lift/carry up to 50 lbs; push/pull up to 100 lbs; drive up to 4 hours per day.
