Position OverviewThe Office of the Insurance Commissioner (OIC) seeks a qualified individual for the Actuary 3 – Supervisor position within the Rates, Forms, and Provider Networks (RFPN) Division, based in our Tumwater Office. This high‑impact leadership role contributes to OIC’s mission of protecting consumers, ensuring a fair and competitive insurance market, and improving customer service. In addition to reviewing numbers, you will shape policy, influence regulation, and guide a talented team of analysts who impact millions of Washingtonians.
Duties- Review and take actions on rate filings submitted by health insurance carriers, perform actuarial work for financial analyses and examinations of domestic health insurance carriers.
- Calculate reserves for domestic health and disability insurance carriers.
- Discuss findings with the financial examination team and carriers, writing actuarial reports.
- Supervise and direct health and disability actuarial analysts.
- Bachelor’s degree in actuarial science, economics, mathematics, statistics, or a closely related field.
- Membership in the American Academy of Actuaries.
- Seven (7) years of professional health actuarial experience.
- Degree from an accredited institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education, or a foreign equivalent with credential evaluation.
- At least five years leading actuarial staff or serving as an actuarial team lead/supervisor.
- At least three years of individual and small group ACA health plan rate filing review or pricing experience.
- At least two years in financial examination of health insurers or in actuarial statutory reserving and financial reporting.
