Job Description

The salary for this position is: $4,902 - $6,521 monthly.

Thurston County District Court is seeking a highly motivated, professional, and positive candidate for the position of Adult Probation Clerk within our Probation Department. This position supports the success of those justice involved that have release and sentencing conditions ordered by the Court.

The Probation Clerk performs monitored compliance reviews for misdemeanant offenders referred by the Court to various alternative-sentencing programs. This position also provides administrative support to the Probation Manager and Probation Counselors to include calendaring, outreach, and customer support.

Essential Functions
  • Supervises a caseload of misdemeanor and gross misdemeanor offenders to assure compliance with court-ordered terms of probation; informs clients of court requirements and facilitates the meeting of conditions ordered.
  • Prepares progress and/or non-compliance reports to the court.
  • Prepares and distributes updates for docket calendar for probation officers and court staff.
  • Responsible for office efficiencies by ensuring adequate supplies, and general office equipment and facilities are maintained/operational.
  • Troubleshoots equipment problems and arranges for maintenance and repairs with IT staff.
  • Creates, revises and makes available court forms and special program materials.
  • Analyzes complex cases with multiple issues, gathers and applies information necessary to prepare cases for hearings.
  • Assist parties in identifying and accessing court-ordered services.
Working Conditions
  • Work Environment – Work is performed in office, community, and corrections environments, engaging in both team and individualized roles providing for professional collaboration with the court and multi-disciplinary teams, justice partners, community stakeholders, and treatment agencies.
  • Schedule - Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Workload demands may occasionally require work outside the assigned work hours.
  • Travel Requirements - Travel may be required to attend meetings and trainings, and to engage with program participants.
  • Customer Interactions - Daily interactions via phone, in-person, and video with clients, justice partners, community stakeholders, and treatment agencies.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Five years of experience in the criminal justice, court process, social work, or related field. One year general office experience to include full range of support tasks, and providing information and assistance to the general public.
  • Interpersonal relations using tact, patience and courtesy. Oral and written communications, correct English usage, grammar, spelling punctuation and vocabulary. Planning and organizing work.
  • Thorough knowledge of local, state & federal criminal laws, confidentiality requirements, local court rules and administrative codes.
  • Oversee a heavy caseload and cope with interruptions and crisis situations.
  • Work at a computer throughout the workday, entering and extracting data.
  • Work independently, maintain confidentiality, using good judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions.
  • Working knowledge of Washington State Court Systems, DISCIS, Microsoft Word and Windows.
  • Ability to complete and perform multi-task assignments.
  • Current Washington State Driver's License or have requested and obtained an appropriate accommodation.
