Mam In-Person Interpreter (IPI) –

Location:

Olympia, onsite servicing Thurston County. Job Type: Independent Contractor. This contract role is designed to be flexible and provides opportunities to expand your interpreting business with access to many sessions per day.

• Provide effective onsite interpreting sessions in a professional manner.
• Maintain a professional appearance and behavior, including punctuality and preparedness for sessions.
• Demonstrate the ability to adapt quickly to new and changing situations.
• Adhere to interpreter ethical standards and procedural requirements specific to interpreting context.
• Demonstrate commitment to cultural sensitivity and working in a diverse environment.
• Respect LEP clients, culture, dialect, beliefs and preferences.
• Demonstrate a strong aptitude and passion for customer service and interpreting.
• Speak clearly in both languages using proper pronunciation, enunciation, and polite expressions.
• Render exact and correct concepts and meanings according to interpreter protocol.

• Fluent with strong verbal communication skills in both the source and target language (Mam to English and vice versa).
• Excellent listening and retention skills to maintain a high level of accuracy during interpretation.
• Successful completion of a proficiency assessment or possession of a national certification.
• Extensive knowledge of code of ethics and standards of practice (IMIA, NBCMI and NCIHC).
• Must be at least 18 years of age.

• Ability to read and write in the requested languages.
• Degree or certifications in interpreting practices.
• National Medical Interpreter Certification by CCHI, NBCMI or DSHS.
• Accredited medical interpreting training courses (e.g., ALTA, MITS, Bridging the Gap, MiTio, Cross-Cultural training, 40-hour accredited medical courses).
