Note:

This is a non-permanent position with the expected duration of 6 months. The hiring authority reserves the right to offer the position at any time after the required posting period, and during the recruitment process. The SOC is a 24/7 operation so all SOC Officers will be assigned to a shift to cover these operations. The incumbent may work nights, weekends, and holidays.

Shift assignments may rotate. The incumbent may be required to support emergency operations during a critical incident, in stressful and fast paced work environment. Additionally, this position is required to work on-site.

About the Opportunity

As a Security Operations Center (SOC) Officer, you will play a critical role in monitoring surveillance video and serving as the first point of contact for incidents and activities occurring on the Capitol Campus. Working in the Capitol Security Operations Center, you will provide professional security support to law enforcement, state employees, and visitors. You will monitor Genetec CCTV systems, building automation tools, and alarm controls, dispatch emergency and non-emergency calls, and coordinate closely with Washington State Patrol and other security agencies.

You’ll also conduct forensic video reviews, support campus events, manage incident reports and shift logs, and help ensure the safety, confidentiality, and security of the campus in alignment with state policies and standards.

Responsibilities
  • Monitor Genetec CCTV, building automation systems, and security alarms to ensure campus safety.
  • Proactively respond to surveillance alerts and life safety system alarms in real time.
  • Receive, relay, and dispatch emergency and non-emergency calls to appropriate personnel with speed and accuracy.
  • Operate multi-frequency two-way radio consoles and maintain clear communication with field units and agencies.
  • Serve as liaison with law enforcement and other agencies to coordinate incident responses and maintain situational awareness.
  • Track and document campus-wide incidents and activities to identify trends and support investigations.
  • Use specialized software to log daily activities, incident reports, and assist distressed individuals during emergencies.
  • Conduct forensic video reviews and provide video evidence to law enforcement or in response to public records requests as directed.
  • Other duties as needed.
Required Qualifications
  • Ability to commit to a schedule that will include nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and make decisions, with strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of MS Office products and ability to learn specialized systems.
In addition to the above requirements, a candidate must also possess one (1) of the following experience and education options: [OPTION 1]
  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • Five (5) years of experience performing work, where you engaged frequently with customers, managed and resolved conflict through collaboration and teamwork, prepared reports or logs, and required strong attention to details.

    NOTE:

    This experience must include at least one (1) year of the following:
    • Communications/dispatching experience in the law enforcement, emergency operations, or security sector.
    • Experience in an operations center that included communications and video.
    • Experience in a position that required dedicated operation of a video surveillance system which included downloading digital files for use in investigations, planning, response or another operational task.
