The Aquatics Lead is responsible for the immediate operation of the aquatic facility and assisting with the performance of the Lifeguarding staff. They are responsible for protecting the safety of patrons in and around the pool area by: preventing potential accidents by enforcing rules, maintaining a clean uncluttered pool area, and maintaining a chemically balanced pool. The Aquatics Lead promotes the mission and goals of the YMCA and the Aquatic Department.

- Program
- Model safe, responsible, professional and appropriate behavior.
- Enforce all pool rules and follows said rules.
- Respond to any accidents or incidents according to YMCA policy.
- Ensure equipment is used properly and for the appropriate events.
- Learn and use members’ names.
- Provide a friendly and courteous environment for YMCA members and guests.
- Wear appropriate uniform with shirt, whistle, nametag, guard tube, and first aid fanny pack at all times.
- Lifeguard pools during scheduled shifts.
- On-call for opening shifts.
- Leadership/Staff
- Ensure the safety of aquatic staff and members
- Assist in regular in-service trainings.
- Act as a liaison between aquatic staff and supervisors.
- Enforce and interpret rules and policy for the facility.
- Ensure proper opening and closing procedures are performed.
- Ensure lifeguards are representing the South Sound YMCA in a professional manner including uniform and interaction with members.
- Conduct regular safety checks and readiness drills on lifeguard staff.
- Facility
- Keep pool areas clean and uncluttered.
- Report any safety hazards to Aquatic Management.
- Submit maintenance requests for repairs immediately.
- Perform chemical tests as scheduled and record results as directed.
- Administration
- Help maintain departmental records concerning lifeguard performance, pool operation and chemistry, as well as, facility and equipment management.
- Maintain accurate records of all chemicals test results and bather load count sheets.
- Assist in finding coverage for shifts when staff members call out sick.
- Perform opening, closing, and pre and post shift checks as outlined in the Aquatic Handbook and the Washington State Department of Health regulations.
- Report needs for supplies to Aquatic Management staff.
- Assist Aquatic Management Staff with other administrative duties as assigned.

To serve in this position, the incumbent should be at least 18 years of age and have appropriate education and employment experience to successfully carry out job responsibilities. Education experience should include: current CPR for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, AED, and Lifeguard certifications and knowledge of applicable laws and codes affecting the pool operation and chemistry.
