Store Assistant (Electrical Stores / Yard Assistant)

Barrett Contracts are seeking a reliable and motivated Store Assistant to support the day-to‑day operation of our electrical stores and yard. The role will primarily involve working in the background of the electrical trade counter, preparing materials for site, managing stock, and maintaining a clean and organised yard and storage area. The successful candidate will assist the Storeman and will also be contactable by site foremen throughout the working day.

Full health and safety training will be provided and is mandatory.

• Assisting in the preparation and sorting of electrical materials for site orders. Picking and organising materials required by site teams and foremen.
• Unpacking and checking incoming stock deliveries. Sorting and organising existing stock.
• Identifying and discarding obsolete or damaged stock.
• Separating and recycling packaging and waste materials correctly.
• Maintaining a clean, tidy and safe stores and yard area.
• Carrying out general yard duties, including sweeping and power‑washing.
• Supporting the Storeman with daily stores operations.
• Communicating with site foremen to prioritise and prepare materials.
• Occasionally attending worksites to assist the team when required.
• Providing lunchtime cover within the stores and trade counter area.
• Following all company health and safety procedures at all times.
• This role may develop over time to include assisting with the company’s wholesale electrical trade counter, which is open to the public.

• Willingness and genuine interest in learning about electrical materials and stock.
• Good communication skills and the ability to deal with foremen and colleagues professionally.
• Ability to multitask and prioritise work in a busy environment.
• Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
• Able to work well as part of a team.
• Ability to follow instructions and work safely at all times.
• Previous experience in a stores, warehouse or yard environment.
• Basic knowledge of electrical materials or construction products.
• Experience working around construction sites or trades.
• An interest in progressing into an electrical wholesale or trade counter role in the future.
