Graduate Assistants (GAs) with the Service Learning Academy (SLA) support the planning, coordination, and implementation of service learning projects. GAs work in partnership with UNO courses and departments, P–12 classrooms, after-school programs, and community organizations to provide logistical and program support for meaningful community engagement experiences. This is a 5-month assistantship that begins on January 4, 2027 and ends on May 14, 2027, with the possibility of renewal for the following academic year.

Graduate assistants work 20 hours per week, excluding holidays and university breaks. Work schedules are flexible and may vary based on project needs. The position includes a monthly stipend in line with University assistantship funding levels, tuition remission for up to 12 credit hours per semester, and the option to enroll in subsidized health insurance as approved by the Board of Regents.

Support UNO faculty, P–12 teachers, and nonprofit partners in planning and implementing service learning projects. Coordinate service learning activities, including scheduling, event planning, and logistical support for courses and programs. Maintain accurate records, including data entry and online tracking of service learning activities. Assist with onboarding and training graduate assistants and student employees.

Work Schedule - 20 hours per week, flexible schedule

In addition to core responsibilities, the Graduate Assistant will:

Assist the Service Learning Manager and staff with special projects and program development. Support the growth and sustainability of key initiatives, including the P–16 Initiative, Maverick Philanthropy Initiative, and traditional service learning courses. Help implement risk management and compliance procedures for service learning activities.

Participate in committees, meetings, and internal planning efforts. Complete other related duties as assigned.

Candidates must:
Demonstrate strong communication, organization, time-management, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to adapt to changing project needs, partner schedules, and communication styles. Be able to manage multiple projects at the same time and work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Be admitted to and maintain full-time enrollment in a graduate degree program (minimum of 6 graduate credit hours per semester) for the duration of the appointment.
