McArdle Grading Co. is grading contractor specializing in site preparation, earthwork, and excavation for commercial and residential projects. We are Seeking a Project Engineer to support our project management team from pre-construction through closeout, helping keep projects organized, documented, on schedule, and within budget.
This role is ideal for someone with a technical background who wants hands-on field exposure and a clear path toward project management.
Responsibilities- Support Project Managers on civil projects from startup to closeout
- Review civil plans, specifications, and contract documents
- Prepare and track submittals, RFIs, and shop drawings
- Perform quantity takeoffs and assist with estimating and bid preparation
- Track job costs, quantities installed, and production rates
- Prepare and document change orders, pay applications, and daily reports
- Coordinate with field crews, subcontractors, suppliers, inspectors, and surveyors
- Attend site visits, progress meetings, and preconstruction meetings
- Maintain accurate project records, including as-builts and closeout documents
- Support safe work practices and compliance with company and OSHA standards
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- 0–3 years of experience in civil construction, site development, or utilities
- Ability to read and interpret civil plans and specifications
- Understanding of earthwork, utility, and paving operations
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Proficient with Microsoft Office, especially Excel
- Willingness to spend time in the field on active jobsites
- Valid driver’s license
- Internship or co-op experience with a civil contractor or engineering firm
- Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D, Bluebeam, or takeoff software (e.g., AGTEK, Trimble Business Center)
- Familiarity with GPS machine control and surveying concepts
- Exposure to project management or job costing software (e.g., Procore, HCSS, Viewpoint)
