Overview
KETV, the ABC affiliate in Omaha, NE, is looking for an Assignment Editor/Producer to join our nightside team. A triple‑threat utility player is sought—someone aggressive on the assignment desk during breaking news, able to publish content to our digital platforms, and with the editorial judgment to fill in as a producer. The role includes finding distinctive enterprise stories, overseeing crews, and aiding day‑to‑day logistics and planning.
The successful candidate reports directly to the News Director.
- Listen to multiple police scanners covering more than a dozen agencies, with strong inbox ears.
- Track crews in the field and communicate with them.
- Gather and organize press releases, emails, phone calls, and viewer tips, determining which content will be compelling for newscasts.
- Assist news management with content gathering and planning.
- Publish and post content to all digital platforms—sending push alerts and publishing to Facebook, X, You Tube, and Instagram.
- Fill in as a line producer as needed.
- Experience listening to police scanners.
- Proficiency with digital platforms, especially social media; monitoring multiple accounts to gather content and communicate with news makers.
- Experience with PACER, Nexis, and court case research preferred.
- Ability to build and maintain professional relationships with news makers.
- Capacity to gather information from multiple sources simultaneously and quickly deliver it to anchors, reporters, producers, and digital editors.
- Remain calm and level‑headed during breaking‑news situations.
- Previous line‑producing experience preferred.
- Willingness to work a variety of shifts, including weekends and nights.
- Related military experience considered.
