*** JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
** The Writing Center Supervisor supervises the day-to-day activities and employees of Metropolitan Community College’s Writing Centers. The Supervisor schedules Writing Center staff, liaises regularly with faculty in a variety of subject areas, and collaborates with other Academic Support Supervisors to ensure the smooth operation of MCC’s Writing Centers and alignment with other Academic Support Services. The Supervisor provides writing consultation services to students, faculty, and staff, and communicates with departments throughout the college to address writing-related needs across the college curriculum.
** ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS:
*** Supervises the day-to-day activities and scheduling of the Writing Center staff across Metropolitan Community College.
* Provides writing consultation services to MCC students, faculty, and staff during assigned hours, assisting with a variety of writing-related tasks.
* Liaises with faculty and academic departments across the college to understand existing and emerging writing challenges within the MCC community.
* Works with faculty and other Academic Support & Libraries leaders to design and implement creative interventions to support students’ writing needs.
* Participates in college-wide initiatives in support of student learning and retention.
* Assists with recruiting, hiring, and training Writing Consultants and Peer Writing Tutors.
* Maintains accurate center records and reports on center effectiveness and student outcomes.
* Proactively engages with scholarship, developments, and best practices in the Writing Center field.
* Develops, schedules, and conducts workshops, presentations, and trainings.
* Promotes the Writing Center and other Academic Support & Libraries services through classroom visits and personal contacts with faculty, staff, and students.
* Consistently and dependably attends work, activities, and functions as scheduled or assigned.

* KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

*** Excellent written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal skills, and active listening skills.
* Knowledge of Writing Center pedagogy and training practices.
* Knowledge of learning and tutoring methodologies.
* Knowledge of adult learners’ specific educational needs.
* Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
* Knowledge of college-supported software applications and online learning platforms such as Canvas or Blackboard.
* Ability to exhibit professionalism and understanding in stressful situations.
* Ability to work independently and productively.
* Ability to collaborate professionally with a wide range of college stakeholders.
* Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks.
* Ability to work and interact effectively with students and colleagues of various abilities, cultures, and ethnicities.
** MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

*** Master’s degree in English, Writing, Education, or another related field.
* Two (2) years of related work experience such as teaching, tutoring, or training diverse adult learners.
* At least one year of college Writing Center experience.
* Equivalent combination of education and/or work experience considered.
* Ability to travel between campuses for meetings or position responsibilities.
* Experience supervising, coaching, and training others in a team environment strongly preferred.
* Must pass background check.
