Part‑Time Preclinical Teaching Faculty

The University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) College of Medicine (COM) is seeking a part‑time Pre‑Clinical Teaching Faculty member to join its Kearney Regional Campus. The College is dedicated to educating and training physicians for practice in Greater Nebraska, with a particular focus on preparing students to meet the health care needs of rural and regional communities. This position offers a meaningful opportunity for a practicing physician to have a direct and lasting impact on medical students early in their training, shaping their clinical reasoning, professional identity, and commitment to patient‑centered care in Nebraska.
This role is designed for physicians with a strong interest in medical education. The successful candidate will contribute to small‑group, active‑learning experiences within the Phase 1 (preclinical) curriculum, with a particular emphasis on early clinical reasoning and professional skill development. The faculty member will hold an academic appointment within the College of Medicine department that aligns with their specialty.
Responsibilities include:- Facilitate small‑group learning sessions in Phase 1 curricular components, including:
- Problem‑Based Learning (PBL)
- Communication Skills
- Physical Diagnosis
- Evidence‑Based Medicine
- Commit approximately one half‑day per week during the academic year for scheduled teaching activities.
- Participate in required preparatory sessions and faculty development activities to ensure alignment with curricular goals and instructional methods.
- Engage in assessment and feedback activities related to assigned teaching responsibilities.
- Serve, as requested, on relevant College of Medicine committees consistent with the part‑time nature of the appointment.
