Pay Range: $83,492 - $125,292 per year

Position Summary

Controls Engineers are responsible for designing, developing, installing and maintaining equipment used to monitor and control systems, equipment and processes. Routine work spans building management systems, power system automation and protection systems, and a wide range of industries. Experts in advanced process control, instrumentation, distributed control systems, PLCs and SCADA, they use these skills to design and implement solutions to our customers’ complex needs.

Specific areas of expertise for this position include power‑chain monitoring and control systems in Data Centers and/or mission‑critical environments. Experience with Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS) and field‑device configuration of gateways, PLCs, meters, relays and SCADA/HMI software is required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Technical Responsibilities
  • Design / Engineering
    • Generates design documents for SCADA/Automation projects
    • Initiates design documents for small projects and supports large programs
    • Assists senior engineers in preparation of designs, including:
      • Performs requirements analysis
      • Creates subsystem designs (CAD, panels, layouts, wiring, SCADA screens, hardware, communications)
      • Comment resolution
  • Programming
    • Program, configure and troubleshoot controllers, PLCs, RTUs, and HMI systems
  • Testing / Troubleshooting / Deployment / Commissioning
    • Assists senior engineers in creating and updating testing and commissioning procedures
    • Prepares test reports
    • Originates test procedures
    • Commissioning of deployed systems
    • Develops test equipment and simulation devices
    • Performs factory and field testing
  • Maintenance
    • Performs troubleshooting on service calls to existing and legacy system operators
    • Performs hardware/software upgrades and replacements on existing systems
Managerial Responsibilities
  • Estimates
    • Assists senior engineers in preparation of cost estimates and supporting documentation
  • Personnel Management
    • Assigns tasks and coordinates with technical staff
Qualifications
  • Education/Experience
    • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering and 2-5 years field experience
    • Associate degree in mechanical or electrical field and 5-7 years field experience
    • High school diploma and 12 years field experience
    • 2 years’ experience designing and servicing controls systems for switch gear, substations, metering and SCADA/Fault Data/SER/Integration‑Automation equipment installation and testing
    • Experience reading electrical and control schematics
    • Experience in control system startup, configuration and calibration
    • Experience in testing and troubleshooting control and protection systems
    • Experience using basic electrical and hand tools
    • Experience using testing, calibration or industry‑specific tools and software
    • Must have Rockwell Factory Talk SCADA
  • Computer Skills
    • Experience in OT and IT networking technologies and topologies
    • Experience troubleshooting and diagnosing OT and IT networks and protocols
    • Experience in CAD/CAE software (Visio, AutoCAD)
    • Experience with EPMS and BAS
    • Experience in schedule management software
    • Standard office software (Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, etc.)
  • Certificates and Licenses
    • Required certifications:
      • Certification in one or more PLC/Automation platforms (e.g., Niagara N4, Schneider, Rockwell, Siemens, JCI)
      • Certification in one or more SCADA platforms (e.g., Iconics, Ignition)
Physical Demands
  • While performing job duties, employees are regularly exposed to computer screens for extended periods; sit for extended periods; reach by extending hands or arms in any direction; have finger dexterity to manipulate objects with fingers; listen and understand spoken information; communicate orally; read and understand written information; apply general rules to specific problems; identify and understand the speech of another person.
