Position: Dam Safety Subject Matter Expert (Structural, Geotechnical, Hydraulic, or Geologic)

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation using the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce.

About the Position:

You will serve as the Dam Safety Subject Matter Expert. This job announcement will fill multiple vacancies at the full performance level GS-14 and may be filled at any of the duty locations listed on the announcement. The location must be negotiated and agreed upon by both the losing and the gaining organization prior to the selectee receiving a firm job offer.

Duties:
  • Serves as a Dam Safety Subject Matter Expert (SME) and principal advisor on complex engineering issues related to dam and levee safety.
  • Develops engineering publications, criteria, and guidance for Corps-wide application.
  • Manages the technical portion of analyses and studies prepared by internal teams, Architect-Engineer firms, or other contractors.
  • Performs agency technical reviews of major rehabilitation and safety modification reports to ensure compliance with established criteria and sound engineering principles.
  • Develops advanced engineering models and analytical tools to support risk-informed decisions for dam and levee safety.
  • Leads multi-disciplinary teams (Structural, Geotechnical, Hydraulic, or Geologic) in the evaluation of complex infrastructure performance and risk.
  • Leads a subordinate staff of engineers and technicians by assigning, coordinating, and reviewing their work.
  • Provides expert consulting services and technical training to USACE districts and other federal agency personnel.
Requirements:
  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • You may be expected to travel 40 % of the time for this position.
  • This position may require incumbent to complete a one-year supervisory probation.
  • This position may require incumbent to possess and maintain a valid State motor vehicle driver's license prior to appointment.
  • This position requires incumbent to possess and maintain a State Registration as a Professional Engineer or Professional Geologist. (PE for engineers, PG for geologists).
