Summer 2026 - Construction Materials Testing Engineering Technician Job Description

Join Terracon as a Construction Materials Field Professional for the summer of 2026 (May through August, with possible extension to Fall 2026 as a Co‑Op). This role focuses on protecting clients' largest investments by performing critical materials testing, observation, and inspection services on construction projects across various sectors including transportation, power generation, healthcare, education, and more.

General Responsibilities

Perform field and/or laboratory testing, observation, and inspection of construction materials (soils, aggregates, concrete, asphalt, steel). Communicate with project managers, engineering technicians, client representatives, and contractors regarding site conditions and testing requirements. Transport material samples to the laboratory, tabulate and submit data in written and digital reports for daily transmittal. Maintain and clean equipment, vehicles, and work areas while adhering to strict safety standards.

Roles And Responsibilities
  • Under close supervision of senior technicians or staff professionals, assist on tasks and perform basic testing and observation duties.
  • Provide clear documentation of findings and results.
  • Communicate information to the Project Manager and discuss accuracy of data prior to submittal.
  • Submit documentation and communicate results as directed by the Project Manager.
  • Progressively assume increased training and responsibility in work assignments.
  • Maintain assigned equipment and follow safety rules and practices.
  • Report any safety issues or concerns to management.
  • Be responsible for maintaining quality standards on all projects.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent and currently pursuing a degree in civil or an engineering program.
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable violation history.
