Job Summary

The Accounting & Finance Project Manager is a hybrid role of monthly accounting responsibilities and special project work. This role is responsible for supporting accurate and timely financial reporting through active participation in the month-end close process, including journal entry preparation, lease accounting, variance analysis, and internal allocations. Additionally, the position contributes to strategic initiatives and special projects, including ERP implementation and process improvements, providing financial insights to support decision-making.

Must have a thorough understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and financial analysis.

  • Month-end close & financial analysis:
    Participates in month-end close by preparing journal entries, analyzing monthly results, and researching discrepancies. Posts internal allocations as well as tax allocations. Maintains the preliminary review file and contributes to monthly financial review. Reviews journal entries prepared by Financial Analyst.
  • Lease Accounting:
    Manage the day-to-day accounting activities related to the company’s lease portfolio including preparing and posting accurate journal entries for lease. Maintain detailed lease schedules and ensure they reconcile with the general ledger, supporting month-end and year-end close processes. Assist with the implementation and maintenance of lease accounting software, monitoring changes in lease agreements, and evaluating their accounting impact. Additionally, support internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation and reconciliations.
  • Balance Sheet Integrity:
    Monitors the timely completion of balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring each includes appropriate supporting documentation and is properly reviewed. Develop and maintain a tracking system to report compliance status and elevate issues as needed. Conduct an annual review of all reconciliations to verify adherence to company policies and internal controls.
  • Special Projects:
    Performs financial analysis and research on special projects as requested by the Corporate Controller, providing insights and recommendations to support strategic decision-making. Actively participate in the company’s ERP replacement initiative and contribute to other process improvement efforts, ensuring alignment with sound accounting systems, policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Advertising:
    Partners cross-functionally with the Marketing team to review vendor invoices, validate spend against purchase orders, and ensure accurate financial tracking. Prepare monthly accruals and reconciling marketing-related expenses to support timely and accurate financial reporting.
  • Packaging:
    Analyze monthly activity of packaging purchases to ensure proper accounting treatment. Work cross-functionally with logistics, production, and inventory to obtain accurate month-end physical counts and develop process improvements.
  • Cross trained in Financial Analyst functions to provide coverage and guidance when needed.
Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities
  • 4-year college degree in Accounting
  • CPA license preferred
  • 5-7 years experience in Accounting or Auditing.
  • Knowledge of GAAP standards including Lease accounting
  • Proficient knowledge in Excel
  • Working knowledge of JD Edwards preferred
  • Must be detail oriented and possess a high degree of accuracy. Proven ability to demonstrate critical thinking skills, independent reasoning, analytical skills and judgment.
  • Intermediate-level skills in Excel, including data analysis and use of advanced formulas.
  • Strong ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain focus on key tasks.
  • Quickly absorbs new information and skills, particularly with new systems or processes.
  • Excellent ability to communicate and collaborate effectively across departments with the ability to interact with various management levels. Maintains a positive attitude and is a team player.
  • Ability to research and work independently with no supervision. Ability to use a high degree of independent judgment to make sound decisions
