OverviewThe Investment Accountant will oversee accounting and reporting for investment portfolios backing life and annuity products. This position focuses on ensuring accuracy in financial reporting and compliance with statutory and GAAP standards, with a strong emphasis on asset-liability alignment and investment performance oversight.
Key Responsibilities- Manage the accounting for a diversified investment portfolio supporting insurance and annuity liabilities, including fixed income, structured products, and private placements.
- Record and reconcile investment transactions such as purchases, sales, interest accruals, amortization, impairments, and valuation adjustments.
- Prepare and review statutory schedules (D, BA, DB) and supporting documentation for regulatory filings.
- Support both GAAP and statutory reporting cycles, including preparation of quarterly and annual financial statements and related disclosures.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders across Finance, Treasury, and Actuarial to ensure investment results align with product and liability management strategies.
- Work with third-party managers and custodians to reconcile investment data and resolve discrepancies.
- Monitor adherence to investment policy and regulatory requirements, including diversification and credit quality standards.
- Produce management reporting on investment income trends and portfolio performance metrics.
- Support audits and regulatory examinations through documentation and analysis.
- Identify and implement enhancements to investment accounting processes and controls.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in life insurance, annuity, or investment accounting roles.
- Strong understanding of NAIC statutory accounting principles, U.S. GAAP, and RBC concepts.
- Experience with investment asset classes common to insurance portfolios—corporate bonds, structured securities, mortgage loans, and private placements.
- Familiarity with Clearwater Analytics or similar investment accounting systems.
- Advanced Excel proficiency and comfort handling large data sets.
- Detail-oriented with strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
