Environmental Resource Specialist

As a senior technical specialist, provides authoritative information on matters pertaining to ecology, biology, and other environmental sciences, and environmental laws, regulations, and policies.

• A. Degree:
  Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.

  Education and Experience:
  
  Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

One year of specialized experience which includes:

• 1) preparing environmental assessments and impact statements for civil works projects to ensure compliance with federal environmental policies and regulations;
• AND
  2) applying environmental laws and regulations such as the National Environmental Policy Act and Clean Water Act to coordinate compliance for assigned projects;
• AND
  3) developing scopes of work and reviewing contractor-prepared environmental documents and biological monitoring studies to support project objectives.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).
