Cardiology Tech - 24 Hours/Week - Days

Location:

Methodist Hospital, 8303 Dodge St, Omaha, NE.

Work Schedule:

5:00am to 5:30pm, 2 shifts per week.

Job Summary

Cardiology technician assists cardiologists scheduling appointments, reviewing patient files, monitoring testing, and assists in the diagnosis of cardio and/or vascular diseases.

Responsibilities
  • Provides appropriate care specific to the age of the customer/patient to ensure understanding and comfort level of treatment, as outlined in the Age Specific Criteria.
  • Schedules patients for stress tests and assists physicians and mid‑level practitioners with the performance of the stress tests (including nuclear stress tests).
  • Receives calls from the emergency room and coordinates chest pain patients for early morning stress tests.
  • Assists coordination of add‑on patients to the Heart Station or Nuclear Department.
  • Communicates add‑on patients with the mid‑level practitioners or physicians for the procedure.
  • Prepares patients for a stress test: checks patient wristband for two identifiers, educates patient regarding lead placement, treadmill walking expectations, importance of exiting treadmill quickly for the echo sonographer, obtains accurate patient history, appropriate indications, obtains BP’s for physicians or mid‑level practitioners, monitors heart rate after the stress test to ensure it is within a normal range, logs each patient into Cerner and charges the procedure.
  • Works professionally with all members of the cardiac team:
    Emergency Room, Nuclear, Echo staff, and Registered Nurses when coordinating stress echos.
  • Collaborates in the maintenance of proper inventory, works with Bio‑med for maintenance of EKG carts or treadmill needs, shares responsibility of ordering supplies for the department.
  • Demonstrates ability to access environment of care policies on computer: knowledge of code red, code triage responsibilities, hazardous materials, and other hospital policies.
  • Competent in putting on and taking off Holter Monitors and Event Monitors; provides instructions to patient; appropriately charges for the monitors.
Schedule

5:00am to 5:30pm, 2 shifts per week.

Job Requirements Education
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Participate in mandatory in‑services and continuing education programs as mandated by policies and procedures, external agencies, or as directed by supervisor or manager.
Experience
  • Previous experience with electrocardiogram (EKG) and cardiac stress testing preferred.
License/Certifications
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) strongly preferred at time of hire; required within 3 months of hire.
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand English at a level normally acquired through high school education.
  • Ability to recognize cardiac arrhythmias normally acquired through on‑the‑job training and/or courses in EKG interpretation.
