Position Summary

The Outpatient Therapist is responsible for supporting a program-wide culture that promotes mental health, social and emotional well‑being, nurtures the bonds between children and their caregivers, and promotes success at school and in the community. Therapists will learn and demonstrate fidelity to therapeutic models such as Child‑Parent Psychotherapy and Trauma‑Focused Cognitive‑Behavioral Therapy. Therapist will conduct assessments within the scope of licensure to aid in creating a successful treatment plan.

Through implementing model strategies, Therapists will contribute to the wellbeing of children, promote secure attachments between children and their caregiver(s), enhance caregiver parenting skills, create home environments that nurture child development, and contribute to the success of children in school and community activities. Outpatient Therapists work in the family home and/or community (i.e. school) at times that are most convenient to the family;

this includes evening and weekend hours. Therapists will be enrolled in Nebraska Medicaid and commercial insurance providers. Therapists will bill a minimum of 20 units per week and will thoroughly document all treatment.

Education
  • Master’s Degree in Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, Counseling, or another related field that supports application for licensure as a Mental Health Practitioner in the state of Nebraska.
Experience
  • A minimum of two years of successful work experience within human services is required.
Preferred Experience /Skills
  • Intermediate skills in typing/key‑boarding, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Preferred Experience
  • Experience with Evidence‑Based Practices.
  • Providing home‑based services or working with marginalized populations.
  • Experience serving families, caregivers, and children (ages 0‑19).
Preferred Abilities
  • Build and maintain relationships with diverse clients to achieve treatment goals.
  • Passion for assisting and caring for others, aligned with prevention and early intervention.
  • Creative, critical thinkers who apply program theory and identify patterns in complex situations.
Certification/Licensure
  • At least 21 years old.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Valid Auto Insurance.
Job Duties /Responsibilities

70% Treatment

An Outpatient Therapist (Therapist) must be available to clients at times that are convenient to the client in a location desired by the client, such as the family home or community (i.e. school). Therapists will meet with clients for a frequency and duration that is in alignment with recommendations from the Initial Diagnostic Interview or in accordance with Therapeutic Model. Outpatient clients will have an intake session completed within nine calendar days.

Therapist will complete a battery of assessments to comprehensively evaluate the child, caregiver(s) and the parent‑child relationship. Therapist will use motivational enhancement strategies to increase client motivation to change as is necessary through the course of treatment. Therapists will provide a range of clinical, concrete and advocacy services that are tailored to each family’s values, learning style, and culture while evidencing fidelity to Therapeutic Models.

Therapists will complete treatment plans, session notes, and treatment plan reviews that demonstrate progress toward goals and alleviation of mental health symptoms and impairment. Therapist will consistently collaborate and advocate with formal and informal community resources and systems, while teaching the family to advocate for themselves. At the close of services, Therapists will evaluate goal attainment and develop a plan for maintenance alongside the family.

15% Communication

Therapist will demonstrate clear and concise verbal and written communication with KVC colleagues, clients, and community partners. Verbal communication will represent collaborative case coordination that is timely, solution‑focused, honors client autonomy, and protects HIPAA. Written communication of Therapists primarily occurs through client record maintenance and billing documentation. Therapists will meet all quality standards and timelines for case documentation and billing.

15% Professional Development

Therapist will attend and demonstrate active participation in group and individual supervision and consultation as required. Therapist will seek consultation with colleagues and case stakeholders as needed. Therapist will take ownership of their professional development through identifying goals, incorporating supervisory feedback into practice, attending and applying continuing education and other activities as are suggested.
