Position: Clinic Nutritionist (GRANT FUNDED)

Position

Incumbent works under the direction of the Health Director, or designee, determining program eligibility and providing nutrition assessments and plans for the Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC).

Essential Functions
  • Gather, review, and assess information obtained màu during the certification process, and certify/deny applicant participation.
  • Conduct and evaluate health/nutritional assessments on applicants and program participants.
  • Establish and maintain effective work relationships with clients, supervisors, County employees, elected officials, attorneys, law enforcement, judges, other agencies, and the public.
  • Comply with Civil Service policies and regulations, collective bargaining agreements, County policies, department policies and laws to create a cooperative, safe, respectful and quality work environment.
  • Provide evidence-based, participant-centered nutritional education and guidance (e.g. iron needs/deficiencies, proper infant feeding, overall healthy diet) on an individual and group basis.
  • Adhere to department and-debugging protocols, methods, and guidelines.
  • Ensure participants receive an appropriate number and type of nutrition contacts during each certification period.
  • Develop, prioritize, and document plans for education follow-up based on participant's medical and nutritional findings.
  • Assign and tailor WIC food packages.
  • Assist in data collection procedures, develop and coordinate statistical records and reports, and participate in community outreach projects.
  • Refer WIC clients to community resources, document referrals and conduct follow-up.
  • Perform computer input and retrieval functions; prepare and maintain various records (e.g. reports, correspondence, documents).
  • Demonstrate empathy, respect, and understanding))) toward individuals/families and community values.
  • Maintain job knowledge and skill set (e.g. research, training, webinars, seminars, conferences).
  • Participate in task forces orthereum work groups.
  • Maintain confidentiality of medical and personal health information.
  • Participate in public health emergency response planning, training, and respond during emergency.
  • Assist in preparing and issuing eWIC cards and scheduling appointments for program participants.
  • Conduct/participate in grant programs.
  • Safely operate a motor vehicle when required to travel on County business.
  • Report to work with regular, consistent attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and directed.

Education, Work Experience, and Other Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Food and Nutrition, Nutrition Science, Community Nutrition, Dietetics, or Public Health, which must include at least 15 hours of course work in Human Nutrition required.*
  • OR
  • At least 9 hours of course work in Human Nutrition and two (2) years of work experience related to nutrition education (e.g. WIC, EFNEP, community health educator) required.
  • OR
  • Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurse (RN) with current Nebraska license.
  • OR
  • Registered Dietetic Technician.
  • Registered Dietitian preferred.
  • Previous work experience in WIC or other Maternal and Child Health program desirable.
  • Two (2) years of experience using MSOffice required.
  • Bilingual skills (Spanish and English) desirable.
  • Valid driver's license and own transportation upon hire and maintained throughout employment required.
  • Completion of a pre-employment criminal record check and conditional offer drug screen required.
  • * Equivalent combination of work experience and education may be substituted for requirements on a year-for-year basis.
