This position will be responsible for the investigation of moderately complex suspect insurance claims and other matters pertaining to fraud, waste, and abuse. The position will require the ability to work with other Markel Associates and interact with regulators and law enforcement agencies in bringing matters to a logical conclusion.

Responsibilities- Conduct an investigation from inception to its logical conclusion
- Document all investigative findings in the case management system or other designated area
- When applicable, make a written referral to a DOI, Attorney General’s Office, or law enforcement agency
- Respond to information requests/demands from other carriers, Departments of Insurance, District Attorneys, or law enforcement agencies
- Maintain and foster working relationships with Markel Associates and externally with DOIs, District Attorneys, and law enforcement
- B.S. or B.A. degree required
- 2+ years experience working in a Special Investigations Unit in Property, Casualty or Workers' Compensation
- 2+ years of insurance experience in a Claims Examiner, Audit, Underwriting or Legal may be substituted for SIU experience
- Certifications including CFE (Certified Fraud Examiner), CIFI (Certified Insurance Fraud Investigator), or ACFI (Accredited Health Care Fraud Investigator), or any of the AEI designations (e.g., FCLS, FCLA, SCLA, etc.) preferred
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook
- Knowledge and experience with social media
- Knowledge or desire to maintain a working knowledge of the use of technology and analytics in fraud detection
