Primary Purpose Of This Position Work with a trainer to learn how to fill customer orders and put together shipments of fabricated steel, warehouse steel, and other materials for shipments to customer and suppliers. Help receive and unload incoming material from suppliers. Locate material into inventory storage, staging areas, and work areas.

Essential Job Functions

• Identify steel shapes, sizes, and mill tolerances.
• Locate material as trained and instructed.
• Locate beams, tubes, angles, channels, bar grating, pipe, plate, or rounds according to the layout shown on yard map, cut lists and shop drawings.
• Load/unload trailers, railcars, and saw horses.
• Operate overhead cranes, forklifts, jib cranes, gantry cranes, conveyors, and transfers to move materials.
• Any other duties assigned by management.
• Attend all meetings as required by management.
• Consistently and reliably work scheduled hours at assigned locations.

Physical Demands

• Stand FREQUENTLY over the course of the 8 to 12 hour work shift.
• Walk CONTINUOUSLY over the course of the 8 to 12 hour work shift.
• Sit only during break and lunch periods.
• Lift weights up to 30 pounds FREQUENTLY from floor to head, including tools and blocks used in normal duties.
• Lift weights up to 70 pounds OCCASIONALLY from knee to waist, including tools used in normal duties.
• Carry weights mentioned above up to 60 feet.
• Climb OCCASIONALLY to FREQUENTLY up and down steps, ladders, onto material, or onto conveyors.
• Stoop or crouch OCCASIONALLY while performing regular job duties.
• Kneel OCCASIONALLY, depending on the job.
• Crawl OCCASIONALLY up to 5 feet to access tools or materials.
• Reach forward FREQUENTLY to perform job duties or retrieve tools; occasionally reach to full forward extension.
• Reach overhead OCCASIONALLY to guide material attached to cranes, attach chains, locate blocks, or saw blocks.
• Push and pull material attached to an overhead or jib crane OCCASIONALLY to FREQUENTLY to guide into place; force up to 35 pounds.
• Pull hand over hand OCCASIONALLY to FREQUENTLY to pull chain through material; force up to 70 pounds.

Non-Material Handling Demands

• Employee is expected to work 40 hours a week; overtime and weekends may be required based on needs.
• Hearing sufficient to be aware of safety issues.
• Visual ability to read and interpret shop drawings; safety glasses required in shop area.
• Exposure to heat, cold, wet and humid conditions OCCASIONALLY.
• Exposure to fumes, odors and dusts OCCASIONALLY.
• Exposure to solvents, greases, oils and coolants OCCASIONALLY.
• Wear all required PPE: steel‑toe safety shoes, hearing protection, safety glasses, gloves, and hard hats.

Tools Required

Pencil, Tape Measure, Markers, Chainsaw, Grab Hooks, Pry‑Bar, Ladders, Remote Control, and Chains.

Machines Utilized

Overhead Crane, Jib Crane, Gantry Crane, Pallets, Transfers, and Forklifts.

Experience And Education Required

• Six months of experience in a steel manufacturing environment is preferred.
