Manual Machinist – Omaha
Conductix‑Wampfler, a leading global manufacturer in mobile electrification, seeks a manual machinist focused on quality and continuous improvement. The role involves operating and setting up manual machines, working with various materials, and supporting customer projects.
Responsibilities- Study blueprints, sketches, and specifications to determine dimensions, tolerances, and setup requirements.
- Mark, scribe, and reference dimensions on material or workpiece.
- Select, align, and secure fixtures, tools, and accessories on mills, lathes, drill presses, and special purpose machines.
- Calculate and set machining controls (speed, feed, coolant, depth/angle) and input commands into machine controls.
- Operate machines, monitor for malfunctions or out‑of‑tolerance parts, adjust settings as needed.
- Verify finished workpiece conformance to specifications and conduct trial runs for accuracy.
- Assemble parts into final assemblies and verify dimensions & alignment.
- Collaborate with engineers, production personnel, and programmers to resolve machining or assembly issues.
- Build and maintain fixtures for drilling, milling, and turning.
- Check inputs from engineering, sales, and manufacturing offices for accuracy and communicate changes or corrections.
- Support and uphold 5S, quality, and EHS policies.
- Contribute to core values and company culture.
- Associate’s degree or completion of a machine/tool and die technology apprenticeship.
- 3–5 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment with a focus on quality.
- Proficiency in running and setting up manual equipment.
- Problem‑solving ability, strong communication skills, and teamwork.
- Knowledge of tools, fixtures, machining fundamentals, and tolerance application.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and manuals.
- Proficiency with measurement instruments (vernier calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, inclinometers).
- 6″ machinist scale, 6″ caliper (dial or digital), 0–3″ micrometer set.
- 12″ machinist combination square, telescoping gauges ½″–6″, transfer punch set, center punch set.
- Carbide scribe, 12′ tape measure, calculator (scientific).
- Dead‑blow hammer, brass hammer, 12′ crescent wrench, end wrenches 7/16″–1″, dial indicator with 1 travel.
- Edge finder, screwdriver set, ball‑pen hammer, Allen wrenches (1/16″–1/2″), threaded pitch gauge.
- Safety glasses, drills, taps (supplied).
- Physical demands include standing, lifting heavy items, and working in loud, vibrating environments.
- Work environment exposure to moving parts, vibration, fumes and hot conditions; noise level usually loud.
