Primary Purpose Of This PositionFabricate parts for structural fabrication, Service Center, and miscellaneous steel assemblies per cutting lists, shop drawings, and DWS quality requirements.
Essential Job Functions- Identify steel shapes, sizes, and mill tolerances.
- Fabricate material as trained and instructed.
- Fabricate beams, tubes, angles, channels, bar grating, pipe, plate, or rounds according to the dimensions shown on cut lists and shop drawings, AISC code requirements for structural steel, and machine capabilities.
- Make adjustments to machine to ensure accurate dimensions as shown on the shop drawings.
- Identify cut list and shop drawing errors and discrepancies before or during early stages of fabrication.
- Operate forklifts, jib cranes, overhead cranes, conveyors, and transfers to move materials.
- Perform minor mechanical tasks on machine (blade changes, cleaning, etc.).
- Attend all meetings as required by management.
- Consistently and reliably work scheduled hours at assigned locations.
- Reading, writing, and performing arithmetic calculations.
- Understanding and carrying out semi-complicated verbal and written instructions.
- Effective communication with co-workers, supervisors, and managers.
- Working under periodic supervision focused on progress and setting priorities.
- Use of measuring tools such as auto measurer, tape measure, or ruler.
- Passing a company-administered test covering shop drawing interpretation, fractional number calculations, basic geometry.
- Interpreting cutting lists, shop orders, and shop drawings.
- Using a computer for cut‑lists and inventory purposes.
- Showing pride in workmanship, attention to detail, and safety.
- Operating forklifts and overhead cranes safely and understanding crane hand signals.
- Following inventory procedures and multitasking.
- Stand frequently during an 8–12 hour shift.
- Walk occasionally to frequently, ranging from a few feet to 60 feet.
- Sit only during break and lunch periods.
- Lift up to 20 pounds from floor to chest continuously, up to 35 pounds from floor to waist frequently, and up to 60 pounds from floor to waist occasionally.
- Carry weights over distances up to 60 feet.
- Climb occasionally onto conveyors.
- Stoep or crouch occasionally, holding position for seconds to minutes.
- Kneel occasionally based on job duties.
- Crawl rarely up to 10 feet to access tools or materials.
- Reach forward or overhead occasionally, and push/pull drawers or material as required.
- Gross finger dexterity required for tool operation.
- Work 40 hours a week with possible overtime and weekend shifts.
- Audibility sufficient for safety awareness.
- Visual ability to read shop drawings with required safety glasses.
- Exposure to heat, cold, wet, or humid conditions occasionally.
- Exposure to fumes, odors, dusts, solvents, greases, oils, or coolants occasionally.
- Wear all required PPE: steel‑toe safety shoes, hearing protection, safety glasses, gloves, hard hats.
Pencil, square, tape measure, markers, ball peen hammer, wire brushes, 4‑grinder, sledgehammer, grab hooks, vise grips, Allen wrenches, pry‑bar, C‑clamps, band cutters, and chains.
Machines UtilizedSaw, overhead crane, jib crane, pallets, transfers, brake, blaster, punch, shear, forklifts.
Experience and Education Required- Minimum six months of experience in a steel manufacturing environment.
