A day in the life

Based in Britton, SD (relocation encouraged), you start your day reviewing new customer prints. You translate those drawings into actionable plans: identifying materials, calculating feeds and speeds, projecting cycle times, and selecting the right tooling and work holding to build an accurate quote.

From there, you craft and refine CNC milling programs so every component meets exacting customer specifications.

On the floor, you set up and operate the mills, validate tooling and fixtures, run first articles, and fine‑tune offsets and code to dial in quality and throughput. You keep a close eye on machine behavior, making proactive adjustments to sustain efficiency.

You also perform routine checks to keep equipment in peak condition, team up with engineering and production to resolve any machining challenges, and document everything along the way—production runs, tooling changes, and maintenance activities—while modeling safe work practices.

What you will do
  • Estimate and quote new parts from customer drawings: determine materials, establish feeds/speeds, forecast cycle times, and define tooling and fixturing.
  • Create, optimize, and prove out CNC milling programs from engineering prints and specifications.
  • Set up and operate CNC milling machines with the correct tools, fixtures, and work holding.
  • Monitor performance in‑process and adjust programs, tooling, and offsets to maintain quality and efficiency.
  • Conduct regular preventive maintenance checks to ensure reliable machine performance.
  • Partner with engineering and production to troubleshoot and resolve machining issues.
  • Maintain complete records of production runs, tooling changes, and maintenance activities.
  • Follow all safety procedures and help foster a safe, organized workplace.
What you bring
  • High school diploma or equivalent; a technical credential in CNC programming is preferred.
  • 3–5 years of CNC programming experience focused on milling processes.
  • Fluency in G‑code and M‑code.
  • Experience with CAD/CAM (Gibbs Cam preferred) and hands‑on CNC machine setup.
  • Sharp problem‑solving skills and a meticulous attention to detail.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics.
  • Clear communicator who thrives in a collaborative, team‑oriented environment.
