Position SummaryThe Communications/Outreach specialist will support the Water, Climate & Health Program by developing and managing digital and print communications, coordinating outreach activities, and strengthening engagement with stakeholders, partners, and institutional communications offices. This role will create compelling content, support and occasionally travel to outreach events (including occasional overnight travel), track communications metrics, and collaborate with program leadership to ensure consistent messaging and alignment with program goals.
Responsibilities- Develop and manage digital and print communications for the program.
- Coordinate outreach activities and strengthen engagement with stakeholders, partners, and institutional communications offices.
- Create compelling content for digital and print platforms.
- Support and occasionally travel to outreach events, including overnight travel.
- Track communications metrics and use data to assess and improve outreach strategies.
- Collaborate with program leadership to ensure consistent messaging and alignment with program goals.
- Manage social media, websites, or newsletters for the organization or program.
- Balance multiple priorities with strong organizational and project management skills.
- Work effectively with diverse partners and stakeholders, demonstrating excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.
- Use common office and communications software (Microsoft Office, Canva, Adobe Acrobat, etc.) effectively.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, Public Health, or related field.
- Experience: Minimum 1 year professional experience in communications, outreach, marketing, or related work.
- Professional experience in communications, outreach, marketing, or related work.
- Strong writing, editing, and content production skills for digital and print platforms.
- Experience managing social media, websites, or newsletters.
- Excellent organizational and project management skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook.
- Proficiency with Canva or Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign).
- Experience with community engagement or stakeholder outreach, particularly with public health, environmental, or governmental partners.
- Experience supporting grant-funded projects, preparing communication materials for proposals and reports.
- Familiarity with data visualization or science communication, translating technical or research information for public and stakeholder audiences.
- Proficiency with design and communications tools (Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, Constant Contact, Mailchimp, etc.).
- Experience tracking communications metrics and using data to improve outreach strategies.
- Ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams and represent a program at events or meetings.
- Familiarity with accessible design standards (Section 508, WCAG) and commitment to creating inclusive digital and print.
- Knowledge of plain language principles and ability to communicate complex or technical information clearly for general audiences.
- Familiarity with email marketing platforms (Constant Contact, Mailchimp).
- Competence in using social media management tools (Hootsuite, Buffer, native platform scheduling tools).
- Ability to use analytics tools (Google Analytics or platform-specific insights) to track engagement and reach.
