Job Description

American Traveler seeks an experienced RN for a Labor & Delivery position requiring NE or compact licensure, night shifts, and the ability to circulate in the OR.

Responsibilities
  • Work in an acute care hospital on a Level 1 Trauma Labor & Delivery unit
  • Unit includes 16 labor rooms, 9 antepartum rooms, 7 triage beds, 3 OR suites, and 36 postpartum beds
  • Patient population includes high-risk OB and routine obstetric care
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios follow AWHONN guidelines: 1:1-2 labors, 1:2-3 antepartum
  • RNs are required to titrate drips including Pitocin, Magnesium Sulfate, and pain medications
  • Electronic charting with Epic; EFM system is Obix
  • Night shifts are 12 hours ); required to work every third weekend, but could be up to every other weekend
  • Holiday coverage required for 1 major and 1 minor holiday
  • Floating to Postpartum and occasional house float as sitter required
  • Primary responsibilities include care of laboring mothers, circulating for C-sections, and routine newborn care
  • Must be flexible to float to Postpartum and occasionally function as a sitter within the hospital
  • Team structure includes 2 OBTs per shift, 24/7 physician and anesthesia coverage, and a charge RN each shift
  • Surgical scrubs are provided and must comply with the no artificial nails policy; failure to comply is grounds for termination
  • RNs will receive 2-3 shifts of unit-specific orientation
  • RTO (requested time off) must be submitted up front, with a maximum of 7 days per 13-week contract
  • Holiday and weekend work is required according to unit needs
  • First time travelers are welcome to apply
Requirements
  • Active NE or compact RN license at the time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
  • Minimum of 2 years of recent Labor & Delivery experience required
  • Current BLS, NRP, and Intro to Fetal Monitoring certifications required; pending certifications not accepted
  • Experience circulating in the OR required
  • Competency with normal newborn assessments and care required
  • Must be able to titrate common obstetric drips
  • Driver's license required to confirm radius eligibility (must live at least 50 miles from facility)
  • May not be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any facility associated with Common Spirit, CHI, or Dignity
