Overview
Part-time/seasonal position in a day camp setting involving planning and leading recreational programs and activities. Campers are children who have completed 1st grade through 8th grade. Duties include nature and ecology classes, archery, arts and crafts, and orienteering. Must be able to work outdoors and varied hours, including some evenings.
Responsibilities- Supervise and coordinate activities to promote nature and natural science awareness.
- Maintain the upkeep of the area designated for the program/activity (e.g., nature center, archery targets).
- Coordinate and lead activities for campers and provide instruction for program/activity.
- Set out and collect all equipment daily; assist in Friday special activities.
- Prepare and distribute certificates and awards at Friday programs.
- Enforce safety guidelines associated with camp programs.
- Perform other duties as assigned within the classification scope.
- Camp Specialist duties (if assigned): coordinate and lead activities in a specialized area such as archery, nature skills, or ropes course; additional duties as assigned.
The knowledge, skills, and abilities above may be acquired through, but are not limited to, the following combination of education and/or experience.
- Knowledge of the science of nature-related activities for youth.
- Knowledge of the principles and techniques of administering outdoor education.
- Knowledge of techniques and rules for programs/activities.
- Ability to adhere to safety policies, procedures and guidelines.
- Ability to organize and conduct outdoor classes on biological and/or ecological topics or classes in a sport or crafts; ability to communicate effectively with workmates and the public.
- Ability to understand oral and written instructions.
- Ability to move about the facility 75 to 100% of the workday.
- Knowledge of science related to nature for youth.
- Ability to communicate effectively and work with others.
- Must be a minimum of 17 years old.
- Must be a minimum of 18 years old to perform Camp Specialist duties.
- Must be able to work varied times, including some evenings.
- Must be able to work outdoors all day.
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid certifications.
- Knowledge of Biology.
Pay Range: $15.50+ per hour
