The Department of Neurological Sciences at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) seeks a post-doctoral research associate to work in the laboratory of Dr. Peng Zhong, Principal Investigator. The principal focus of Dr. Zhong’s laboratory is understanding the neural mechanisms underlying the bidirectional relationship between sleep and neurodegenerative and neuropsychiatric diseases (e.g., Alzheimer’s disease and drug addiction). Using a range of state‑of‑the‑art techniques—gene profiling, virus‑mediated circuit tracing, calcium imaging/optrode recording, fiber photometry, EEG/EMG recordings, patch‑clamp slice recording, optogenetic/chemo genetic manipulation, and gene manipulation—the lab plans to interrogate the neural circuits controlling sleep/wake and to study the pathophysiology of sleep circuits in the generation of sleep disorders.
Responsibilities- Experimental design, data collection, and data analyses to interrogate neural circuits involved in sleep and wakefulness.
- Preparation of scholarly products, including peer-reviewed publications, conference abstracts, extramural grant applications and progress reports.
- Assist with mouse colony management and histological studies.
For consideration and to apply, applicants must submit a current CV, a brief (one‑paragraph) statement of research interests, and the names and contact information of three references to .
