General Purpose

The Retail Associate is responsible for ensuring customers have a positive shopping experience. The Associate greets all customers, treats fellow associates with respect, follows company best‑practice standards, maintains a clean, organized store, and presents merchandise appropriately.

Essential Functions
  • Practices safe behaviors and maintains a safe, clutter‑free sales floor.
  • Treats all customers and associates with respect, courtesy, and professionalism.
  • Assists customers, handles register transactions, and answers questions politely and knowledgeably.
  • Responds promptly to customer service calls and handles issues courteously, escalating when necessary.
  • Represents and supports the Ross brand at all times.
  • Performs cleaning tasks (sweeping, mopping, dusting, wiping counters and mirrors, replenishing restroom supplies, disinfecting high‑touch areas).
  • Maintains a professional appearance and adheres to the company dress code.
  • Performs daily assigned sizing and recovery to keep the store neat, clean, and merchandised to standards.
  • Expedites newly received merchandise to the sales floor, merchandises items per best practice guidelines, and maintains brand familiarity.
  • Understands the Loss Prevention Awareness program, Shortage Highway, and merchandise protection standards.
  • Demonstrates integrity and honesty in all interactions, safeguarding confidential information, cash, and merchandise.
  • Follows all Mark‑Out‑of‑Stock (MOS) policies and reports disposals to Store Leadership.
  • Follows cash, check, charge card, refund, void, and offline policies; remains accurate when handling bankable tenders.
  • Demonstrates a sense of urgency and maximizes productivity by executing best practices and minimizing workflow steps.

Qualifications and Special Skills Required

Effectively communicate with customers, associates, and store leadership in a friendly, respectful, cooperative, and pleasant manner.

Perform basic mathematical calculations commonly used in retail environments.

Physical Requirements / ADA
  • Use all store equipment, including PDTs, registers, and PC.
  • Stand, walk, and move around the store for up to 100% of the shift.
  • Bend at the waist, squat, kneel, climb, carry, reach, and stoop regularly.
  • Occasionally push, pull, and lift more than 25 pounds.
  • Use janitorial equipment, rolling racks, ladders, and other assigned supplies.
  • Stockroom shifts may require pushing, pulling, and lifting more than 20 pounds.
