Position: Police Officer- Full time Hours 11pm-7am
Position Summary
This position encompasses general police and facility security work, including enforcement of applicable laws, rules, and regulations. It involves crime prevention, investigation, and detection; traffic control; and maintaining law and order. The position also entails public relations responsibility to the interest and needs of the public.
This is a non-exempt position in the Police Department. The Police Officer reports to the Police Sergeant.
Essential Job Functions
Enforce applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations, including the Omaha Airport Authority (OAA)'s rules and regulations and the provisions of the Airport Security ProgramPerform duties outlined in the Police Department Standard Operating Procedures, Airport Emergency Plan, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Certification Manual, and other contingency plansPerform airside operations area escorts, as necessary, once trained, authorized, and badged to drive in the non-movement areaPerform various patrol and surveillance functions, both vehicle and by foot, to assess security measures and ensure a high level of security for airport property, facilities, and personsProvide law enforcement support for Transportation Security Administration (TSA) passenger screening functionsResponding to requests for police assistanceInvestigate minor crimes occurring at the airport, provide preliminary response for serious crimes, forward reports for law enforcement follow-up investigationsMaintain proper logbooks, reports, and forms; recording circumstances surrounding events and investigations that occur while on dutyMaintain traffic flow on airport roadways and issue citations, when appropriateOversee vehicular traffic security for the parking garage during heightened federal security alertsAppear in court to present evidence and testify, as neededPerform designated Communication Center duties, as assignedCommunicate essential information to appropriate parties adhering to established protocols for radio usePerform other duties as assignedKnowledge,
Skills and AbilitiesRequired
High school diploma or equivalentKnowledge of the proper use and care of firearms, maintaining competency in the use of authorized service weapons as well as passing the annual State of Nebraska Firearms Qualifications CourseAbility to obtain a non-movement area driver qualification within the probationary/qualification period and maintain the certification throughout employmentValid Nebraska or Iowa driver's licenseClear communication, both written and verbally, in EnglishAbility to understand and carry out complex written and oral instructionsSituational analysis for adoption of a quick and efficient course of action, including making logical decisions under pressureCapable of learning factual materials and ability to apply knowledge in critical situationsMental alertness and good observation skillsAssertiveness in potentially dangerous situationsProfessional bearing and appearance through neatness and overall groomingCapable of producing desired results while effectively utilizing available resourcesAbility to consistently take initiative and use sound judgment when making decisions to benefit the organizationAbility to interact professionally in all situationsEffective oral and written communication skillsReliable, present and punctual in performing essential job functionsOngoing learning and training to expand skill sets to adapt to existing and future organizational needsAbility to respond to operational situations and emergencies in the airport movement areaAbility to pass OAA physical agility, drug screening and background checksCorrectable 20/20 visionPhysical requirements require officers to often carry gear such as weapons, protective vests, and communication devices. Ability to carry out a foot pursuit if necessary and subdue or restrain suspects, require upper and lower body strength to apply handcuffs or control individuals. Officers need good dexterity to operate firearms, radios, vehicles, and other tools. Other tasks and duties include applying first aid, writing and submitting reports in a timely manner.
This job involves walking, standing, and patrolling for extended periods of time indoors and outdoors in all types of weather.
