Stephen Center has served homeless and low-income individuals in Omaha since 1984 with the mission to partner with the community, families and individuals to overcome homelessness, addiction and poverty. The Pettigrew Emergency Shelter and Permanent Supportive Housing offerings provide safe and secure housing while individuals and families complete an assessment of permanent housing options. All Stephen Center residents have access to dual diagnosis support services via the HERO addiction/recovery program.
100% of Stephen Center shelter supportive housing participants are living in poverty. Housing transition support identifies poverty barriers that may impact one’s ability to achieve or maintain permanent housing through case management, life skills, and behavioral health services. Stephen Center serves approximately 250 people daily in all programs.
Purpose: The Stephen Center Emergency Shelter Guest Services is responsible for the care and oversight ofthe clients residing in the shelter.
Staff has the opportunity to direct clients by assisting them withquestions, problems and emergencies.
Other duties include maintaining accurate logs, filing out incident reports and other necessary paperwork.
Key Accountabilities:
- Ensure all safetyand security guidelines are followed.
- Advocate on behalfof the clients in addition to addressing the needs of the clients including but not limited to medical and dental appointments,transportation, mental health referrals, job leads, etc.
- Monitor and maintain appropriate client behavior using shelter rules as guidelines. Initiate appropriate consequences as necessary
- Monitor and logclient’s medication including counting medication upon arrival and monitoring daily intake. Updatemedication logs
- Keep hallways androoms clean and orderly.
Assist/direct clients to follow through with chores - Address client and communitypartner inquiries promptly and accurately
- Answer incoming calls, distribute messages for clients
- Keep up to date and accurate records of current clients
- Collaborate withcase managers in collecting data from clients at entry and exitinformation upon departure
- Accurately maintain and monitor ban list
- Generate incident reports as necessary
- Clearly and accurately communicate with leadershipregarding bed availability, client count and client intakes
- Contact and coordinate emergency personnelwhen necessary
- Perform all other related duties as assigned.
- Conduct Roll-call in the evenings, inspectrooms for order and cleanliness
- Complete telephone assessment to determineclient eligibility
Position Requirements:
· High School diploma or GED required
· Sitting - Periodically
· Standing/Walking - Periodically

· Pushing/Pulling– Periodically
· Lifting up to 20 pounds - Periodically
· Conductsself in a manner of professionalism that is conducive to recovery from mental illness, co-occurring disorders and overall wellness. This includes workingin a Trauma informed Manner, and maintaining excellent personal and professional boundaries with clients.
· Abidesby all specific program and Agency procedures, policies, and requirements.
· An authentic andhonest employee plays a key role in the client’s recovery. Often, an employee will inadvertently become a role model for the client, regardless of whetheran employee has direct contact with clients on a daily basis. Therefore, Stephen Center employees willconduct themselves with honesty and integrity.
