The Warehouse Supervisor (Floor-Based) is responsible for leading warehouse operations while working directly on the warehouse floor alongside associates. This role requires supervision, real‑time problem solving, and hands‑on support to ensure safe, efficient, and accurate execution of receiving, shipping and inventory activities. The supervisor serves as the primary on‑floor leader ensuring productivity, quality, and safety standards are consistently met.
Key Responsibilities / Duties- Maintain a strong, visible presence on the warehouse floor throughout the shift.
- Direct and monitor daily activities including receiving, picking, packing, staging, and loading.
- Work alongside associates as needed to support workflow and meet volume demands.
- Provide real‑time coaching, feedback, and directions to warehouse staff.
- Ensure associates follow SOPs, work instructions, and productivity standards.
- Assign labor based on workload, priorities, and staffing levels to meet operation goals and deadlines.
- Adjust workflow throughout the shift to address bottlenecks or delays.
- Ensure inbound and outbound shipments are completed accurately and on time.
- Verify proper material handling, load accuracy, and documentation.
- Support equipment operation when required (forklift, pallet jack, etc., if certified).
- Enforce safety rules, PPE requirements, and equipment procedures on the floor.
- Conduct daily safety walks and correct unsafe behaviors immediately.
- Lead incident response and report safety concerns or accidents.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, company, and customer safety requirements.
- Ensure accurate receiving, picking, and shipping processes.
- Assist with cycle counts, physical inventories, and investigate inventory discrepancies.
- Monitor product handling, labeling, and storage to prevent damage or errors.
- Ensure FIFO, lot control, and quality standards are followed.
- Act as the primary point of contact between warehouse associates, clerical staff, and management.
- Communicate priorities, changes, and performance expectations clearly.
- Escalate issues related to labor, equipment, safety, or service levels promptly.
- Conduct daily meetings and communicate expectations.
- Train new hires and ensure adherence to standard operating procedures.
- Complete shift reports, productivity tracking, and labor documentation.
- Document coaching, training, and corrective actions.
- Provide feedback and recommendations for process improvements.
- Prepare daily, weekly, or monthly operations reports.
- Support audits, compliance checks, and customer inquiries.
- Serve as active clerk/coordinator/lead when one is not available.
- Full‑time; may require early mornings, evenings, weekends, or overtime as business needs require.
- Proven work experience working in a Warehouse setting.
- Warehousing and stock control methods and procedures.
- Knowledge of warehouse software packages and MS Office proficiency.
- Ability to input, retrieve, and analyze data.
- Warehouse operations, procedures, equipment, and terminology.
- Proper methods of storing equipment, materials, and supplies.
- Excellent inventory methods and practices.
- Ability to adapt to changing operational and organization needs.
- Strong team player with the ability to work across multiple functions and disciplines.
- Ability to assess, evaluate, and solve problems.
- Experience working in a union environment.
- Experience in using SAP.
- Must be able to use Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to adapt to work schedule dependent on business and operation needs.
