Experienced Tax Return Preparer

We are looking for an experienced tax return preparer to join our team! The role involves preparing business, trust/estate, and individual income tax returns. Our firm utilizes Pro System fx Tax and BNA Income Tax Planner software. A strong accounting background is also needed to assist our business clients with their accounting needs.

We are a boutique tax and accounting firm that works primarily with high net‑worth individuals and their businesses. We build strong relationships with our clients and their families that often span multiple generations.

This is an in-person position – it is not available for remote work. Our office is located in Corte Madera in Marin County with easy access to San Francisco and the East Bay.

Because this is a position in a small firm (about 15 employees), you would be an integral member of the team, working closely with tax partners and senior staff CPAs. This position would provide you with a unique opportunity to begin or grow your career in this field as you will be involved in all facets associated with the financial and taxation needs of our clients.

There is high potential for growth within the position and the firm – once you have demonstrated proficiency in our methods of accounting and tax preparation/planning, there will be opportunities for increased responsibilities and interactions with clients.

• Preparation of individual tax returns, including gift and estate tax returns
• Preparation of corporation and partnership tax returns
• Tax and financial planning for individuals and businesses
• Preparation of year‑end accounting for businesses
• Preparation of responses to tax notices and audits
• Availability for overtime work during busy tax periods (February through April; September and October)

The ideal candidate for this position is someone who has a strong work ethic and prides themselves on accurate and high‑quality work product. You should hate to make mistakes, but when they do happen (which they will), you will learn from them and grow. We are looking for someone who is a self‑starter with strong leadership abilities and excellent oral and written communication skills.

Most importantly, you need to understand that you would be working in a small office where most of the employees have been with the firm for over 15 years – it is essential that you learn from others’ experience and expertise but at the same time you need to work through challenges and figure out solutions on your own rather than simply relying on them to give you the right answer whenever you get stuck.

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration
• 2‑6 years of broad‑based tax and accounting experience with a public accounting firm
• CPA certification or active pursuit of CPA licensure
• Strong accounting background through coursework and/or work experience
• Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office suite
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Strong organizational and analytical skills
• Demonstrated ability to take initiative and be a self‑starter
• Excellent work ethic and attention to detail and accuracy
