Interim Financial Controller

Overview

Cordia Resources by Cherry Bekaert is seeking an Interim Financial Controller for an on-site role in Edison, NJ, with remote flexibility. This is a hands-on, project-based opportunity with a company recently acquired by a private equity firm. The organization is preparing for its first audit and needs an experienced Controller to bring structure and rigor to its accounting operations.

Role highlights

• Location: On-Site – Edison, NJ. Remote work may be possible with willingness to be onsite to start, and to return for a few days each month during close or as needed.
• Duration: 2–3 months, with possibility of extension.
• Pay: $75–$90/hr.

$75.00/hr - $90.00/hr

Cordia Resources by Cherry Bekaert is partnered with a northern NJ wholesale food distribution firm. This role is to stand up and formalize accounting processes, support the transition from cash-based to accrual-based accounting, and prepare for the company’s first audit early in 2026.

• Reports to CFO.
• Lead clean-up of balance sheet accounts and bank reconciliations.
• Work with the current Accounting Manager and Senior Accountant to document and formalize processes and procedures.
• Transition accounting from cash-based to accrual-based.
• Stand up reporting processes, validate data, and populate reporting templates provided by the PE firm and sister portfolio companies.
• Prepare for the company’s first audit early in 2026.
• Collaborate with staff to understand historical and current practices.
• Direct work of another interim Sr Accountant in this effort.

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.
• Extensive experience as a Controller or Senior Consultant in a private equity environment.
• Strong background in process improvement, audit preparation, and reporting.
• Experience with Sage ERP products (Sage 100, Intacct, X3, etc.) strongly preferred.
• Ability to work independently and drive change in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
• Local to northern NJ preferred, but remote work is possible, with willingness to be onsite to start and return for a few days each month during close, and as needed.
