Position SummaryThis position supports the Financial Accounting department with a focus area specializing in gift, endowment, and investment accounting. The primary focus of this position is accounting, analysis, and reporting related to gifts received by the University. It interacts with multiple departments and cross-function teams, utilizing a variety of systems to fulfill responsibilities and meet objectives.
Job Description PrimaryDuties & Responsibilities
Accounting, reporting, and analysis on gift related activities, including:
- Managing pledge accounting related activities and reporting.
- Reconciling the financial accounting system to the gift subsystem; identifying and correcting errors.
- Balancing, monitoring, and reconciling various gift-related general ledger accounts.
- Analysis and reporting on related data including periodic variance analyses; presenting and summarizing data in a variety of ways.
- Serve as the primary contact for the external auditors on gift-related questions, providing supporting information as requested.
Manage the backend process of accounting for gifts received by the University, including:
- Interpreting complex gift documents to determine specific restrictions and attributes needed in the financial accounting system and the gift subsystem.
- Creating new gift accounts in Workday as needed; maintains data points on gift accounts that influence several layers of reporting and departments’ ability to spend the gifts per donor restrictions.
- Research and resolve gift related issues while ensuring proper treatment of funds / compliance for accounting, legal and stewardship purposes.
- Develops or or enhances documentation and processes; identifies and implements efficiencies.
Handles special requests and projects involving complex accounting transactions and concepts across financial systems:
- Identify, gather, assess, and analyze data used for making decisions and make decisions where appropriate.
- Incorporate data and ideas into either formal or informal reports, presenting resolution to issues or problems.
- Learn/stay engaged in utilizing the advances in financial systems and technology to ensure effective and efficient delivery of information.
- Special requests and projects are frequently cross-functional in nature and require cross-functional learning and collaboration.
Other duties as assigned. This includes cross-training with other positions in the department and serving as a backup during peak periods and vacations.
Working ConditionsJob Location/Working Conditions
This position is a hybrid position that primarily works from home. Must have a dedicated workspace (e.g., home office) with space for dual monitors; and must be able to work at campus location (St. Louis) as needed. Standard work hours are 37.5 per work week with extra hours as needed.
Physical Effort- Typically sitting at desk or table.
- Ability to travel to/from various on and off campus locations.
